2013 Special Olympics of Western Pennsylvania Fall Sectional
Slippery Rock University (spring 2012 - spring 2014)
Responsibilities
  • Over 350 athletes competed and 550 volunteers participated in the 2013 Special Olympics Fall Sectional at Slippery Rock Univeristy

  • Developed. submitted, and oversaw a $450.00 budget for advertising, fundraising, and event operations line-items 

  • Lead, encouraged, and mentored 39 committee chairs at weekly event management team meetings

  • Main liaison between Special Olympics and 10 county representatives competing in the Special Olympics

  • Conducted 4 facility rental requets and several work orders in advance of event

  • Received over $1,000 in donations from several local restaurants and businesses​

 

Skills Developed
  • Money Management: making sure our organization operates in the black year 'round

  • Leadership: facilitate weekly Event Management team meetings.  
  • Communication: main liaison between committee chairs, Advisor, and Special Olympics country representatives.
  • Organizational: delegate responsibilities according to a prioritized list and consistently follow up to guide committee chairs.
  • Event Management:  set up and tear down all 4 facilities, overee securtity, parking, and transportation committees.
  • Program Planning: year 'round planning and outreach to organize succesful event.

Volunteer Coordinator

Special Olympics of Western Pennsylvania Fall Sectional

Slippery Rock University (spring 2011 - spring 2012)

Responsibilities​

  • Attend and provide input in weekly event management team board meetings to plan tasks to develop leadership and time management skills

  • Promote event to university community by publishing campus and local advertisements to attract sponsors, spectators, and volunteers

  • Coordinate and organize positions for over 350 volunteers assigned to multiple event committee teams. (master list available to right)

  • Main liaison between volunteers and committee heads to ensure each venue has the correct number of volunteers staffed

  • Develop master lists of volunteers for registration to log participating volunteers on event day

  • Manage and respond to emails on the special olympics email account specific to Slippery Rock University

  • Lead and facilitate Volunteer meeting held on the Thursday before event day

 

Skills Developed
  • Communication: respond to emails, phone calls, and personally communicating with students during the club and organizational fairs.

  • Organizational: log volunteers into excel spreadsheets, ensuring it is easy to read master list of volunteers organized by committee.

  • Microsoft Excel: creating spreadsheets with volunteers for each committee organized with volunteer contact information.

  • Time Management: making sure to have a minimum of 450 volunteers by the deadline date and getting volunteer positions and duties to volunteers prior to event date.

  • Volunteer Management: understanding how to efficiently recruit, register, and contact volunteers in a timely manner.
