SPMT 315 - Diversity Issues in Sport
The purpose of this course is to provide students with the opportunity to gain knowledge, understanding and appreciation of diversity and diversity issues related to sport and the sport industry. This is a Theory and Technique Course. This course helped me open up my eyes to the diversity issues that have been present and continue to be present in sport organizations world wide. Learning about specific morals, manners, and cultures has been extremley beneficial im my interactions with industry professionals because I understand when to refrain from a conversation that may have some legal implications.
Coursework
I have included two papers that I compiled research on diversity issues in sport management topics to create a paper pertaining to important issues handled in the industry today. The Diversity Immersion paper is about an experience I had while visiting a church with my partner, which we both had never been too. We were required to analyze the environment, the reactions people had to us as newcomers, and the overall expereince we had. The Sport Manager Interview paper provided me with the opportuntiy to inverview a Human Resource Manager working with the National Football League Players Association. I learned a lot about the issues that are occuring within professional organizations and the proactive steps organizations are taking to minimize illegal behavior in the workplace.
